Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a young boy. He was a shepherd. His job was to take care of the sheep. Every day, he took the sheep to the hill to eat grass. He sat under a tree and watched them.
The boy was alone in the hills. He had no one to talk to. He felt bored. He wanted to have some fun. Suddenly, he got an idea. He thought, “I will play a trick on the villagers!”
The boy stood up and shouted loudly, “Wolf! Wolf! Help! A wolf is attacking my sheep!”
The villagers were working in the fields. When they heard the boy shouting, they became worried. They picked up their sticks and ran to the hill to help him.
But when they reached the hill, there was no wolf. The boy laughed and said, “I fooled you all! There is no wolf! I was just playing.” The villagers were angry. They said, “Do not lie! If you lie, no one will believe you next time.” Then they went back to the village.
A few days later, the boy got bored again. He wanted to play the same trick. He shouted loudly, “Wolf! Wolf! Help! A wolf is attacking my sheep!”
The villagers heard him and thought, “Maybe this time there is a real wolf.” They ran up the hill again to help him.
But when they reached the hill, there was no wolf. The boy laughed again and said, “I fooled you again! There is no wolf!”
The villagers were very angry this time. They said, “You are a liar! We will not believe you again.” Then they went back to their work.
One day, a real wolf came. It was big and dangerous. It saw the sheep and wanted to eat them. The boy was scared. He climbed up a tree and shouted, “Wolf! Wolf! Help! A real wolf is attacking my sheep!”
The villagers heard his cries, but they thought, “He is lying again. We will not go.” They did not run to help him.
The wolf killed many sheep and ran away. The boy was very sad. He cried and said, “I should not have lied. Now, no one believes me when I tell the truth.”
